One day layover in Singapore; What tourist experiences can I enjoy?

I would go the one of the food centres also known as Hawker Centres, there's many all over Singapore. Very resonably priced, delicious food and a huge selection at the larger centres. One of the best, especially for seafood is near the airport called the East Coast Food Centre. Others are Newton, Lau Pa Sat and Maxwell, just to name a few. I've never been, but have heard the Night Safari was worth checking out. If you get thirsty, there's some decent entertainment in Singapore, but bear in mind, alcohol costs a small fortune there.
