Does anyone have suggestions on how to stop a rabbit from chewing carpets and rugs?

I've tried splashing vinegar in areas, placing old 'decoy' rugs to protect the carpet (with marginal success), and placing other chewable itemslike little blocks of wood, straw carpets, and even cardboard. Eventually, I'll move outof the partment, and the landlord will replace the ancient carpet without cost to me, but meanwhile, I would prefer not to have to live in a place with swiss cheese for flooring. Any SERIOUS suggestions?
